Luminescence
Luminescence is an immersive installation exploring mechano-luminescence, a physical phenomenon in which certain materials emit light when subjected to mechanical stress.
Within the installation, luminescent liquids react to pressure and movement, producing brief flashes of light. The sonic environment was conceived as a submerged world inspired by deep-sea ecosystems, where glowing forms emerge and disappear like bioluminescent creatures drifting in the dark.
Slow drones, fluid textures and subtle spatial movements evoke the sensation of a gradual descent into an unknown luminous landscape. Sound acts as an extension of the material phenomenon, transforming invisible physical reactions into a living acoustic environment.
Developed in dialogue with researchers from the Photophysics and Supramolecular Photochemistry Laboratory (PPSM) at ENS Paris-Saclay, the project sits at the intersection of artistic experimentation and material science, exploring how sound, light and matter can reshape our perception of the physical world.
