Theo is a young seasonal shepherd living in the mountains with his dog Potti. When Potti gives birth and can no longer guard the flock, Theo is forced to face a difficult and tragic decision.
Mille Moutons is a poetic film exploring solitude, responsibility and the fragile relationship between humans, animals and the landscapes they inhabit.
The music and sound design were conceived as an extension of the mountain environment itself. Rather than imposing a musical presence, the score emerges subtly from the sonic landscape, blending with wind, distance and silence to convey the isolation of the shepherd’s life and the quiet presence of the animal world.
At the heart of the soundtrack lies the unique timbre of Benoît Morel’s viola improvisations, whose fragile and textured sound becomes part of the film’s natural atmosphere, oscillating between music and landscape.
